During the warmer months all the veg in the boxes has been grown here at Coad Micro Farm. We grow using organic principles and do not use chemical sprays although we are not organic certified.
We also grow in a way that regenerates the land and encourages wildlife to live alongside us so that we can leave the land better than when we received stewardship of it. You can read more about the farm and our practices here.
And during the colder months we work with other local, organic farms to buy in seasonal produce to make up for and gaps in the veg boxes where we can't quite produce enough here at the farm.
When will I receive my first veg box?
Depending on when you purchase it should either the Thursday of that week or the Thursday after, but I will contact you if it needs to be a week later for any reason! Of course you will not be charged for further veg boxes until the first has been delivered, then they will be weekly.
Things to know:
- This purchase is for a veg box SUBSCRIPTION this means your veg box will automatically reorder every week.
- The veg boxes are delivered or available for collection Thursday afternoons.
- There are frequently asked questions also further on down the page!
How does the veg box subscription work?
We understand that remembering to order just your veggie needs from a seperate store every week is a lot of faff, therefore we offer our subscription option!
All you need to do is sign up once and each week your payment will automatically go out and your veg will be harvested and prepared for you.
There is no contract and you can cancel at any time!
You can choose between ordering a large or a small veg box.
At checkout you can select if you want to collect your veg box from the farm free of charge or have it delivered for £2.80 delivery fee.
The veg is avaliable for collection 2pm to 9pm on Thursday (full collection details are given once ordered) or delivered Thursday afternoons.
There is also a subscription portal where you can manage your subscription such as skipping weeks you're on holiday.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the veg grown organically?
We are not organically certified (not yet anyway, this is something we plan to work towards) however the veg is grown without the use of pesticides, or herbicides or any chemicals like that.
We also use peat-free organic compost to grow on the veg seedlings and use organic seed where possible.
So while we're not organically certified and therefore cannot call ourselves organic, we do grow using organic principles.
And if we need to buy in any veg over the winter months then that is always purchased from organic farms that are as local as possible.
Can I have some more details on delivery versus collection?
You can choose to collect your veg box directly from the farm (self-service style) free of charge, or have it delivered for a £2.80 delivery fee.
The veg is avaliable for self-service collection between 2pm to 9pm on Thursday on the farm. Full collection details are given once you have ordered.
Or, if you have choosen delivery, they are delivered on Thursday afternoons.
We only sell our produce within a certain milage of the farm to ensure we are offering a local product. You can check if your postcode is in our service area by using any of the postcode checkers on product pages or the homepage.
If neither collection or delivery options work for you (for example, maybe Thursday is just a no in your life) please send us an email to hello@coadmicrofarm.co.uk and we can try and work an alternative arrangement!
What do I do with the seasonal veg?
One of the biggest fears about signing up to a veg box is ending up with a load of veg you don't like and/or don't know how to use...
As "not-a-good-cook" I can really relate and wouldn't want anyone who is looking eat more local be put off by the cooking side of things!
Therefore each week in the email newsletter I will be talking about what veg is going out in the boxes that week, and easy and delicious ways to cook it.
When you sign up for a veg box you should automatically be signed up to the email newsletter but do let me know if you aren't receiving them (my email is hello@coadmicrofarm.co.uk)
What if I don't like the veg in the box?
While I would love to be able to give everyone the option of choosing exactly what goes into their veggie box, because we're such a small farm that just isn't an option. We don't have the space to grow such a huge variety nor could we financially cope with the potential wastages that could result in.
However I do have a solution for you!
Each week in my email newsletter I will be talking about how to cook each of the veggies in that week's box or boxes coming up. These cooking solutions will also include "hiding" solutions so you can still eat and get the nutritional benefits of that food without having to eat a grilled aubergine if you hate aubergines...
A lot of eating seasonally and locally is learning to make use of what's available rather than hunting for specific ingredients for a recipe, and I hope I will be able to show you how to adapt our normal eating habits to make space for seasonal foods. (And trust me, if I can do it then you definitely can. I was born with ZERO natural cooking talent!!!)
If you have an allergy to certain foods please let me know and I will make sure this is swapped out for you. (Email hello@coadmicrofarm.co.uk)
